‘Persistent disparities’ in outcomes for black and female entrepreneurs

A new study has identified “persistent disparities” in the outcomes seen by black and female business owners compared to their white male counterparts, with ethnic and economic background, gender and geography all playing a “profound” role. The study, by the British Business Bank and consultancy Oliver Wyman, said while education, deprivation, access to finance and under-representation in senior positions all partially explain the disparities, systemic disadvantage “also appears to play a role.” Roianne Nedd from Oliver Wyman commented: “What should be a level playing field is littered with obstacles.”
