SME manufacturers across England have received a £6.5m funding boost under the Manufacturing Growth Programme, as the UK Powerhouse report reveals that the UK manufacturing sector has seen productivity fall roughly 75% every day, representing a loss of £540m, since the coronavirus outbreak began. Mr Martin Coats, Managing Director of the Manufacturing Growth Programme, remarked: “All the media attention is on the headline manufacturers and how they are coping in the wake of COVID-19.
It’s our job to look at how the smaller manufacturers supporting these big businesses are performing and what we can do to help them.” Meanwhile the Manufacturing Assembly Network, which employs more than 2000 people across nine sub-contract manufacturers and an engineering design agency, has urged the Government to implement its ‘restart, reposition and transform’ commitment to industry.
